DIY Whimsical Princess And The Frog Birthday Party Backdrop
Having twins means that I get only once chance a year to throw the little girls birthday celebrations of my dreams. This is a HUGE deal to the type A, party loving, proud girl mom like myself. And as this is our 7th birthday (I say OUR because raising kids is very much a group effort thing), I know my years are numbered for planning girly get togethers. I was not about to let 2020 stop me from going all out, even if the party itself was tame in comparison to other years. We initially came up with the theme for a Princess In The Frog birthday as the girls love Princess Tiana and we all love the Disneyland beignets. Speaking of the beignets, these were supposed to be a central component of our party but was one thing that just didn’t end up happening due to time constraints! Anyhow, the decorations came together nicely and we were able to have a beautiful party, 2020 and all. Here is a quick peak at some of the details!

Flower Orbs
After seeing a few tutorials for these on Pinterest, they became my inspiration for the decorations for the party. I hung these within the balloon garland for the backdrop and I love how they came out! These are totally customizable and easy to make, watch the video below!
Supplies Needed:
9” Embroidery Hoops (3 rings per orb)
Small Round Disc Of Floral Foam (5-7 inch Diameter)
Faux Or Fresh Florals And Greenery
Balloon Garland
You guys, I was SHOCKED when I recently found out how EASY it was to make a balloon garland. At first I was contemplating spending $50-$100 from someone to do this for me, then I started looking into how to do it and was pleasantly surprised. Basically, you buy the balloons in the colors you want, then you buy a balloon garland which is basically a strip of plastic or fabric with holes in it. You blow up the balloons (a $20 electric pump makes this insanely quick) and thread the tied balloons through the holes on the garland. Varying the size, color, and side placement of the balloons will get a you a custom and unique look for your balloon garland.
For the one shown here it took me about 1 hour from start to finish and cost me less than $50 in supplies, and that is when you add in the one time cost of the $20 balloon air pump which I HIGHLY recommend. I also added in a Happy Birthday banner and a faux greenery vine to add more color and texture. From there I then hung the flower orbs that I made as shown above. Now, moving forward, I can make balloon garlands for all occasions and just pay the cost of a bag of balloons!
Cups
I always love buying these types of cups from Etsy, they always bring a party theme together! I have ordered similar cups for the last several birthdays and celebrations. These specific ones I got from DivineGlitters. We filled them with lemonade as it was a hot beach day!
Bags
I wanted something that was personalized to hold goldfish and pretzels individually so as to be Covid friendly - and these bags were the cutest fit! They were cute and exactly what I needed, the shop MyPartyBannerShop also caries several other customized designs like this as well.
Cookies
I have purchased cookies a few times from Third Moon Bakery, but this was my first time placing a custom order and Amanda Blew. Me. Away.! She made several hand painted cookies that went along with the fairytale Princess And The Frog theme, but the star of the show for me were the cookies that she hand painted to look exactly like the flower orbs I made. Seriously AMAZING talent! And not only were they picture perfect, but they also taste heavenly. I’m not sure if she only does local orders or if she ships orders, but definitely check her out if you are in need of any cookies!
Favor Bags
This year we went simple with the goodie bags and I let my girls pick out what went inside (ring pops and slime are apparently where it’s at!). I wanted to not do anything too detailed since these bags usually get torn through quickly so I bought a simple design with a drawstring ribbon tie and it was the perfect touch of gold to tie everything together.
And of course, being 2020 and all, there were several ideas that I had that just didn’t make the cut for many reasons, but mostly due to lack of time and energy! The two ideas that I really wanted to do that I was most disappointed in not doing were the Mickey beignets (which they sell in the French Quarter in Disneyland), and a photo session of the girls dressed up and kissing a frog statue. Please someone utilize these ideas and I will live vicariously though you LOL! You can click on the photos below to see my inspiration and plans for the ideas that didn’t quite happen!
And now, 11 months off until I start planning our next big birthday bash!
