The Best Sunscreen And Summer Products (That Are Safe And Non Toxic)!

The Best Sunscreen And Summer Products (That Are Safe And Non Toxic)!

By now we are all familiar with the importance of sunscreen and the fact that it saves lives.  But it’s actually unfortunate that many people do not know that there are many chemicals contained within traditional sunscreens that can actually be harmful for you.  So today I have rounded up the best clean and non toxic sunscreen, sunless tanner, and after sun moisturizing products out there to help you find one that works for you this summer!

Many people buy whatever sunscreen they see and trust that it is healthy for them, yet often times this is not the case.  So what type of sunscreen is safe to use?  And what ingredients should you avoid in your sunscreen?  The most concerning ingredient that you should try to avoid is oxybenzone which can cause skin irritation and hormone disruption (Rodriguez 2006) (Krause 2012).  Other ingredients to stay away from such as octinoxate, homosalate, octisalate, and octocryle are all ingredients that are skin irritants and potent allergens as well.  To read a little more about sunscreen ingredients and safety you can read my post on chemical ingredients to avoid or you can check out the EWG’s article on sunscreen chemicals.  The message that you will find is that it is best to avoid chemical sunscreens and predominately oxybenzone, and switch to more mineral based sunscreens with active ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide
