DIY Face Mask Disinfectant Spray Tutorial: 5 Simple Scent Combinations
So, since it looks like this wearing masks in public thing is going to be for quite a while longer, let’s find a way to make up our mask game! While retailers and manufactures around the world have taken the first step for us in coming out with masks that have fun, cute designs on them, there are other things we can still do to make the situation more bearable. First, we have to remember that disinfecting the masks is important to keep them safe to handle in between washings. Have you also thought about the fact that the more protective your mask is, the less you are able to smell any of the wonderful smells around you. For the time being taking in deep breaths of fresh outdoor air, smelling the flowers, or even smelling the candles in a store is not possible with our new cloth face accessories.
How great would it be if you could smell amazing, uplifting scents while still wearing your mask and staying safe? There is actually an easy way to scent the inside of your mask so that when you breathe in, you are actually having an aromatherapy session! Now what if I told you there was a way to make your mask smell better, but also serve as a disinfectant? If I haven’t already hooked you, now let me tell you that this special spray is something you can easily make in under 5 minutes! See below the few ingredients that you will need, followed by the 3 simple instructions and 5 scent combinations.

3 Step Mask Disinfecting Spray Tutorial
1. After opening your spray bottle, place your drops of essential oils into the bottle. You can use a mini funnel to make this a whole lot easier!
2. Place a ½ teaspoon of vegetable glycerin into the bottle next. Again, a funnel can help with this to prevent waste and mess.
3. Fill the remainder of the bottle (up to the neck of the bottle) with 90% or higher alcohol. Gently shake/mix the bottle and that’s it!
A couple of tips to share with you all on using this spray and keeping yourself safe. First of all, be sure that when you take you mask on and off you are doing so with as clean of hands as possible. This means disposing of any gloves prior to touching the mask and using hand sanitizer if soap and water is unavailable. Next, try to avoid ever (even with clean hands) touching the inside of your mask- the side that touches your nose and face. Also, be sure to hang your mask up when you are not wearing it, do not place it somewhere where things will touch it and potentially transfer germs. And lastly, be wash your mask on a consistent basis!
As far as using this spray, I recommend you use it routinely to freshen up your mask in between washings. Simply spray enough on all sides to coat the entire mask, then hand it to dry. Due to the high alcohol content it should dry fairly quickly. As a reminder, try to not touch the inside of the mask when spraying it! The combination of the alcohol and antibacterial essential oils can help to disinfect the mask, although be aware that it is not complete sanitization!
