My Summer 2019 Reading List
Remember those New Years goals that I set at the beginning of the year? Well, one of those was to read more this year at it is something that I really enjoy doing yet have not made time for in recent years… see also #momlife. Actually, I take that back a bit, I can’t completely blame motherhood for this one, I actually read quite a few books in the first couple of years after the girls were born. Especially when I was pumping milk for them around the clock, I was chained to that pump but I didn’t always completely mind because it gave me time to read! Anyone else do this??
Anyhow, back to the present and how I am kind of failing at this particular New Years resolution. I actually started off with quite a bang, reading a few books within the first month and a half, but since then things have definitely fizzled a bit. I decided that this summer would be the perfect time to get back into it, and to encourage myself to do so I have been building a list of some books that excite me so that I will have good titles to look forward to. So, if you need some reading inspiration, here is what is on my list for this summer! Do you have any other good books in mind? Let me know in the comment section below!

Becoming Michelle Obama
So this one is kind of a cheat because I am already halfway through it, but I intend to finish it within the next few weeks and since it is technically summer, it gets to go on the list!
This book gives both a fascinating and inspirational look at the life of the former First Lady. To see the challenges she overcame to be where she is today is nothing short of amazing. It is a highly recommended read for any woman, it is a bit long at over 400 pages but for me it has been such a good read and at no point have I been bored while reading. If you are looking for a biography read this summer, let this be the one!
When Life Gives You LuLu Lemons
I first saw this book when I was browsing the Target book section looking for a gift for the girls teacher to read after she had had a surgery. The book sounds like such a fun read, which I totally love for summer.
it is about a group of women who find themselves in the same circle, and though their lives are very different, they find themselves with a common goal. A spin off from The Devil Wears Prada, this book gives women of all ages an entertaining and delightful read!
The Whole Brained Child
Truth be told, this book has been sitting on my bookshelf FOREVER, and for some reason I have just been too intimidated by it to give it a read. I decided this summer would be the time as the girls are going to be entering kindergarten this year and I would love ideas on how to help facilitate their growth intellectually.
This book revolves around the discussion of 12 key strategies to promote healthy brain development in children. The child’s mind is constantly forming and structuring itself and these formative years are so crucial. I welcome any advice I can receive on how to both understand and help my child grow and thrive! While I must admit books like these can be a bit hard to digest due to the wealth of information, at only 192 pages, it seems to be manageable with short chapters that get right to the point.
The Checklist Manifesto
If you are not a business owner or manager, you may want to skip right by this one (or perhaps it still might be good as we are all CEO’s of our own lives!). This is a book that one of my friends recommended to me a while back and I have been very eager to read. Since I just finished my last business related book (Be Our Guest which I highly recommend for managers and business owners), I am ready to tackle the next one on my list and this is it.
This book talks about how we can use one of the simplest tools, a checklist, to simplify both our daily lives as well as our jobs and careers/businesses. I am excited to read about the different strategies suggested and implement those into our dental office!
Present Over Perfect
So I am totally aware that I am super late to the game on this one. Again, this is another book I have had lying around for awhile yet haven’t gotten the chance to read.
As my word for 2019 is “present” I figured now is the best time to gather some inspiration on presentful living. The book discusses different inspirations and guidances to help slow down your life and live in a more present and meaningful way! As busy as I have been in this year, my mind and body have been craving that still and can way of life and I’m hoping this book will bring me closer to that in some way!
Big Little Lies
Have you all seen this star studded show? My husband and I had just began watching this series when I found out that it was actually a book and I made him put the series on hold for us so that I could read the book first. Call me crazy, but that’s the kind of girl I am! If there is a book that came before a movie or show, I like to read it first before watching!
If you are unfamiliar with this story, it is centered around the lives of three women and mothers who find themselves interconnected in a web of scandal, lies, drama, and survival. It promises to be a page turner and I can not wait to read this one!
So there you have it! I was actually tempted to put more on this list but I am trying to keep it realistic, so 6 it is! Be sure to tell me below if there are any other good books you would suggest though... I might have room for one more!
