Clean Beauty Product Review: Phillip Adam ACV Shampoo And Conditioner

Today I get the opportunity to share with you a new-to-me brand and product to add to your non toxic beauty/personal care repertoire.  The Phillip Adam brand recently reached out to me and after learning a bit more about their company and their line of products, I decided that I would love the chance to try out and review some of their products.  They sent me the Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo and Conditioner in the Green Apple Scent.  I have been using this as my shampoo and conditioner for the last week and I will share my thoughts on the products here with you today.  To learn more be sure to check out their brand and line up of products on their website!

Texture, Consistency, and Fragrance:

Both the shampoo and conditioner have a nice thick consistency, definitely not watery at all.  The shampoo is more of a gel consistency while the conditioner more of a thick cream consistency.  The fragrance is one of my favorite parts about these products because the apple scent is so wonderfully clean and refreshing.

Lathering/Cleaning Ability :

Like most low chemical profile shampoos and conditioners, it does not lather up as much as traditional formulas do, however it still has a nice amount of lather.  I’ve used some natural shampoos that have minimal to no lather at all and this is definitely not one of those types of products.  The key to maximizing the suds action is to make sure to thoroughly wet your hair before and after placing the products (again, this is pretty standard for most non toxic type products).  My hair always feels very clean afterwards and I have even put it to the test, using it after long sweaty workouts and a day at the beach!

Benefits/Drawbacks:

The biggest benefit of this particular brand and set of products is that unlike most apple cider vinegar shampoos and rinses, this formula is pH balanced which means no irritated dry, itchy scalp as a result.  After multiple uses I still find this to be the case which supports the fact that this is a pH balanced shampoo and conditioner.  Other benefits that I have noticed are extra shine and softness as well as lower inclination to hair frizziness (which I always have problems with in the summer).  The conditioner does absolutely help to detangle my long, thick hair as well which is a huge bonus!

I will mention a few drawbacks to the product here only for completeness if my review... nothing mentioned here would make me favor the products less or be a deterrent to me in purchasing these products.  The first thing I will mention is that, although this is an apple cider vinegar shampoo and conditioner; the actual ingredient list mentions apple cider vinegar as only the 8th and 12th ingredient in both the shampoo (8th) and conditioner (12th).  This means that one can not be sure how much apple cider vinegar is actually in these formulations... however it is very important to note that this is likely why the formulation is able to be so pH balanced with no adverse scalp effects while still being able to retain some benefits from the ACV.  Because of this I would not consider this a major drawback by any means, just something to be aware of.  The only other thing to mention is that, while the apple fragrance is quite lovely when using the product- the fragrance does not linger too well once my hair is dried.  Do not get me wrong, my hair still smells nice and clean, just no detection of the apple scent that I really love about the products (and again, this may just be me because I do have very thick hair).  These are the only two things I felt it important to mention along with the many great benefits of these products to give you an all encompassing review.

Shampoo Cost: $11.77 for 12 fl.oz  OR  $25.56 for 33.8 fl.oz (shampoo only)

Overall Thoughts:

I would 100% support and recommend this product to my readers.  The fact that it is a clean beauty product with a low chemical profile, and is also environmentally friendly; I feel good about using and recommending this brand to my readers.  Not only is the brand awesome for these reasons, but the products themselves are high quality and very effective with a relatively low price point.  Phillip Adam, you definitely have a new customer in me!
