8 Must Try, Multi Use Essential Oils That Aren't In Your Starter Kit
Unsure Of What Oils To Try Next After Trying Out Those In Your Starter Kit?
I’m not going to lie, I was quite overwhelmed after buying my essential oils starter kit and other than diffusing my oils I hadn’t quite figured out how to use these oils to benefit me. Just like everything in my life however, if I don’t understand something I research it until I learn as much as I can on the subject. I began reading books that I came across on amazon, and saving pins from blog articles devoted to ways to use essential oils. I came across many great ways to use my oils and in doing so, I came across others that would be beneficial for me. My collection of oils is slowly growing and I thought I would share with you which I find the most useful (outside of the oils that come in the starter kit) and what I use them for. This is certainly not a comprehensive list but some good ones to try next after the starter kit. If you ever have any questions regarding essential oils don’t hesitate to ask, I don’t know it all by any means but am more than willing to share what I do know!
Grapefruit
This is one powerful oil as it has natural antibacterial and antifungal (fights Candida/nail fungus) properties. When diffused it has an uplifting scent and can help with feelings of depression. It is wonderful for fighting face and body acne, and it can help decrease hair oils and make it shiny. This amazing oil can also be part of a healthy lifestyle as diffusing it can energize you, help with appetite suppression and kick sugar cravings. This oil has also been shown to help reduce swelling. Grapefruit essential oil is also a key component in my Tummy Tightening Oil.
* Please note that while this is an amazing oil it might not be for everyone, grapefruit enzymes have been shown to interact with some medications, if you are taking any medications be sure to talk with your doctor before using this one.
Tea Tree
This oil is sometimes included in the starter kits, and with good reason, its benefits are numerous! This is a key component in two of my amazing DIY products, the Dry Scalp Mask and the Lice Prevention Spray. Unfortunately it took a couple cases of lice outbreaks at school (which was then carried home) to realize that a lice prevention spray was necessary for our girls (insert head in hands emoji here LOL)! Not only is this oil great for helping clear dandruff and lice, but it also great to help freshen a room via diffusing and works great as an additional ingredient to bathroom cleaners to help treat and prevent mold and mildew buildup!
Geranium
Not only does this oil have a floral and soothing/uplifting scent, but it also works wonders on the skin and hair. It is also a key ingredient in my Tummy Tightening Oil due to its astringent properties and it can be used for many other beauty DIY such as face creams, skin lotions, face and hair masks, the list goes on! It would also be great for diffusing in the spring time as well as for making your own body sprays or perfumes. It does have antibacterial and anti inflammatory properties and has been shown to help support hormone balance. I highly recommend this oil, especially if you are interested in making beauty products!
Cedarwood
Another relaxing and calming oil. I primarily use this one at night to rub on my feet (I keep a diluted mixture of cedarwood and jojoba oil in a small dropper bottle by my bed) which puts me into a relaxed state, I swear I sleep in a deeper sleep when I use this at night! This oil also helps to soothe dry skin and scalp, it can stimulate hair growth (some people use it as an eyelash serum - something I am interested in trying), it can act as an astringent which tightens skin, and can also be used as a bug repellent.
Roman Chamomile
This is another one of my go to oils for sleep. It's scent is so calming to me, I create a roller to help with sleep, anxiety, and stress (10 drops diluted with carrier oil in a roller bottle). This oil also helps skin irritation (and is a key ingredient in my Eczema Cream) and fights signs of skin aging.
Helichrysum
This was actually a recent purchase of mine that I have found so many uses for. It had been on my list to puchase for a while but due to the cost it took a while to hit the "add to cart" button. Some of its many uses include helping with healing and fading of scars as well as with scrapes, bruises, and minor wounds. It has also been shown to help reduce swelling and varicose veins.
Citrus Fresh
This awesome oil is actually a blend of orange, grapefruit, mandarin, tangerine, lemon, and spearmint oils. I just love this citrusy combination for its amazing smell and it’s cleaning power! I use this in my Sink Cleaner, Toilet Cleaner and Bathtub Cleaner. I also drop a few drops down my garbage disposal every once in a while and then run it to freshen up the disposal and make the kitchen smell great! And my all time favorite diffuser combo for the kitchen is equal parts Thieves and Citrus Fresh and I call it Kitchen Fresh (original, I know) because that is exactly what the fragrance makes the kitchen feel like!!
Joy
And finally I have another wonderful blend for you. This is a blend of rose, bergamont, mandarin, ylang ylang, lemon, geranium, jasmine, palmarosa, roman chamomile, and rosewood oils. It is essentially a bouquet of flowers in a jar! Many nice floral oils are super expensive so buying this gets you a nice blend of many that you otherwise might not want to splurge on. Makes a great roll on fragrance when you need a little mid day pick me up, also works wonders in the diffuser. The best thing is that you can add it to just about any home or personal care DIY recipe (things like lotion, body washes, soaps, linen sachets, dryer sheets) for a great floral scent!
As I alluded to before, the world of essential oil knowledge is vast and my list here barely scratches the surface. However I know that many people are not interested in learning all there is to know, they just want to make use of the oils they have and learn a few others that may be helpful as well and that is exactly what this post is all about. I hope you all enjoy learning a bit more about some of my favorite oils, and with time I might get another batch up in a follow up post. Until then, please comment or email me any thoughts or questions, they are always welcome!
