You don't have to raise your hand or anything, but if you landed here because you are looking for the best shoe deodorizer out there, well you have come to the right place! As summer rounds the corner I decided that this would be my next DIY project to make because sweaty feet that have been cooped up inside shoes all day do not lend themselves to a very pleasant shoe odor!  DIY to the rescue!  I am hoping you find this recipe to be very simple (only 3 ingredients) and very effective!

Now I also need to make a confession, I think I like this cute little mason jar shaker and washi tape label (almost) more than I like the shoe powder itself.  It makes me smile every time I open the cabinet!  But that's just me, and I have a tendency for getting distracted by pretty things LOL.  Whatever makes you happy, right!?  Happy Making!

Ingredients and Supplies Needed

3 Tablespoons Baking Soda

2 Tablespoons Corn Starch

20 Drops Essential Oils (I Used Peppermint And Tea Tree)

Glass Jar With a Perforated Lid (Such As A Salt And Pepper Shaker)

* These quantities can be adjusted for bigger or smaller jars, just try to keep the same ratios!

Shoe Powder Recipe

Place your baking soda and corn startch into the jar, place your lid back on and shake vigorously (while holding your hands firmly over the holes in the lid).  Now place your essential oils in the jar and again shake vigorously until all ingredients are well combined.

When you find yourself in need of some shoe odor removal, sprinkle inside of your shoes, leave in place for a few hours or preferably over night and then wipe and shake out any excess powder.  You will want to be sure to take out the excess powder as the corn starch is meant to soak up moisture so it will clump on the bottoms of feet if it is left inside the shoe when worn.  Also I should note that this will likely leave a very thin powder residue on the inside of the shoe so if this bothers you then you may want to consider a shoe spray or something of that nature.  I have yet to make a shoe spray but I will put that on my list!

As I noted, you can choose any essential oil or combination.  I used Peppermint because of it's odor eliminating scent and cooling sensation properties and Tea Tree as it has a vast number of antimicrobial and antifungal properties which, let's be honest, may be necessary for some shoes!  I think other good oils to try would be Orange, Lavender, Spearmint, Cinnamon and Grapefruit.  If you come up with a good combination let me know!

Okay, that's all for today, now hurry, run to the shoe closet and get to work!
