Get Your Toes Summer Ready With This Nourishing Nail Oil Recipe

If you are like many women you likely prefer to have your toenails painted, and even fingernails painted if your occupation allows, on a routine basis.  What you may not know is that constantly having polish on your nails means that they are prone to dryness and brittleness.  Acetone from nail polish remover further dries out nails due to stripping the nails of their top layer of cells over time.  This leads to white, rough patches on your toenails and nails that have thick ridges and break easily, hence nails that you want to continue to cover up with polish!  It is important to take breaks between polishings to add back moisture to your nails when possible.  The oil I will show you here can also be used with nail polish on to moisturize from underneath the nail and polish and is able to be used for both toenails and fingernails. Use daily for healthy strong natural nails or in between polishes as a type of "deep treatment" to restore the health and moisture of your nails that nail polish and harsh polish removers take away! Happy Making!

Nourishing Nail Oil Recipe

Fill the 1 oz dropper bottle approximately 75% full with your chosen carrier oil.  You will then add your Vitamin E Oil and Essential Oils and then close the lid and shake to mix the ingredients.  Make sure to store in a cool, dark spot. Super easy, right?  Now apply once a day for a week in between polishing or as part of your daily routine to keep your nails well hydrated and nourished.  Be sure to massage the oil into cuticles well as this is where the root of your nail is and where cell generation occurs and where bacteria and fungus may hide out and grow. Finally, be sure to eat a nutritious diet with lots of water to keep your nails and skin at their peak in moisture!

Ingredient Properties and Benefits

Carrier Oil - Your carrier oil will have the essential component of imparting moisture to your nails and provide a barrier to the escape of moisture.

Melrose Essential Oil - Melrose is a blend of two types of Tea Tree oils, Clove and Rosemary essential oils.  This powerful combination  helps treat many skin related conditions aimed at moisturizing and soothing dry skin.  Melrose also helps treat ingrown toenails and fungal infections that may be lying unknown underneath your nail bed (which is a definite possibility if you have frequented nail salons).

Tea Tree Essential Oil - Tea Tree oil is an amazing oil that is also included in the melrose blend.  I have added it individually to this recipe given the fact that it helps greatly to cleanse and disinfect any surface it is applied to.  This helps keep your nails in top health in between polishings and prevents you from trapping any bacteria or fungus on your nails underneath nail polish.

Frankincense Essential Oil - Frankinsence is a key oil in promoting nail growth due to its cytophylactic properties which encourage new cell generation and help to repair damaged cells.  It also helps to strengthen and moisturize the nails.

Lavender Essential Oil - Lavender essential oil helps to promote nail and cuticle moisture while also strengthening nails and promoting an antibacsterial environment.

The before photo is after several years worth of back to back rounds of toenail polish and a stint of long distance running. You will see very heavy, white, rough patches on my big toes and smaller ones on a few other nails. The after picture was after about a one week break from polish with applying the oil on a daily basis. Nails are much smoother, and majority of the white rough patches are gone after only one week. Note: The after photo is shot prior to applying the oil.
